FILE – In this file photo from Wednesday, Jan.6, 2021, supporters of President Donald Trump including Jacob Chansley, right with a fur hat, are confronted by U.S. Capitol Police officers at the exterior of the Senate Chamber inside the Capitol in Washington. Congress is expected to hear from former security officials talk about what went wrong on the U.S. Capitol on January 6. It was at this point that a violent mob besieged the Capitol and interrupted the counting of the electoral votes. Three of the four witnesses on Tuesday resigned under pressure immediately after the attack, including the former Capitol Police chief. (AP Photo / Manuel Balce Ceneta, file)

I wonder how far the conservative Republicans are going to be allowed to go before the American people stand up and say enough is enough.

They had their little insurrectionary party at the United States Capitol.

They probably sneakily won not one, but two Supreme Court seats. And now the Supreme Court’s precedents are generously dismissed.

First, the regressive Republican court gutted the 1965 Voting Rights Act. Apparently they enjoyed emptying Section 4 so much that they went back for a few seconds and emptied Section 2.

Now they’re plotting the end of Roe v Wade, starting in Texas. From what I understand, a woman does not necessarily even know that she is pregnant at six weeks; and apparently rape isn’t a big deal anymore and incest just keeps things in the family. And now, citizen-conservative vigilantes (with no status) can sue anyone (up to 48 months later) who assists a woman and receive a big reward of ten thousand dollars. Be warned, pilgrims, there is a new court in town.

Given the above, does it seem overkill to wait for the following future additions from backward Republicans and their regressive Supreme Court?

Overthrow Engel against Vitale. There will be a compulsory prayer for all school children (that almost sounds a bit Taliban, eh?). And overturning the Brown v Board of Education / Equal Protection clause of the 14th Amendment – because separate equals. And given that more Democrats than Republicans voted to pass the Civil Rights Act of 1964, it seems a must on the regressive court’s results list.

And then there are all the laws on equal opportunities in housing, education, employment. Will a red line arrive at a bank near you?

I guess the saying is true that anything old becomes new again. Welcome to the new old America of the regressive Republican.
