Amid the continued blockade of key roads connecting Delhi to parts of the NCR by farmers protesting against agricultural laws, the Haryana government told the Supreme Court it was making “sincere” efforts to lift the blockade and allow the resumption of free movement.

“Sincere efforts are being made to lift the blockade of interstate roads and national highways and to restore free movement on these roads for the convenience of the general public by persuading farmers’ organizations to cooperate,” the government said. the Haryana. stated in an affidavit filed in the highest court. Regular deliberations are held by local administrations with farmers’ organizations from time to time to convince them to lift the blockade, as the general public faced great difficulties due to these blockages, he added.
Giving details of its efforts, the Haryana government said a state-level committee headed by the additional chief secretary had been formed to find a way out. The committee meeting on September 19 was not attended by farmer leaders. However, the blockade-stricken Sonipat industrialists came of their own accord to the meeting and recounted the “countless difficulties” they have faced as a result of the blockade since November last year.
Earlier, the UP government had also said in an affidavit that it was doing everything it could to convince farmers that their action of blocking roads was causing serious inconvenience to commuters.
During the hearing of a petition filed by Monicca Agarwal of Noida, a magistracy headed by Judge SK Kaul on 23 August called on the Center and the governments of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana to find a solution to the blockade roads. – TNS
