Cody Sebben, Stratford Councilor

Age: 36

Occupation: Rehab Facilitator

What is your political experience? I am currently serving my first term on Stratford City Council. I am Vice-Chair of the Community Services Committee/Sub-Committee and sit on the Infrastructure, Transportation and Safety Sub-Committee.

Why are you running? After growing up in Stratford I went to behavioral science school and came back after four years. My wife and I have two young children, ages two and five. I am currently a member of Stratford City Council and also work as a rehabilitation facilitator helping people living with brain injuries.

I have one main priority, and that is to represent you. I worked as a city councilor for four years answering every email and phone call, holding monthly meetings, and treating each of your issues as if they were mine. I want to continue to represent you in the face of the major issues and the issues that affect you on a daily basis. This is the role of an advisor.

I strongly believe that governments should spend their money as if it were their own, and Stratford is no exception. In my four years on council, I have been clear and consistent in my belief that council should set reasonable targets for tax increases while maintaining existing services. I opposed the recent 7.6% tax increase and will continue to advocate for lower tax increases because I believe we can do better.

I believe we need a climate plan with teeth and I have a plan to make it happen. We need smaller buses integrated into our transit system. We need more incentives for developers to build affordable and accessible housing and to increase our support for homeless people by building on our successful partnerships with private and not-for-profit businesses.

A vote for me is a request to have access to and the attention of your elected officials not every campaign season but on an ongoing and consistent basis.

For me, it is not enough to ask the opinion of the public after a decision has already been made. It’s not enough when you, your neighbor, or your entire neighborhood feels they are not being heard. You deserve to feel heard and to know that your contribution is making a difference.

Being accessible is key to representing people. That’s why, if re-elected, I will continue to hold monthly forums with the public to ask questions and provide feedback in an informal setting.

For four years, I’ve been by your side, whether it’s a problem in your home, on your street, or one that could change the course of the whole city. Four years ago I asked for your support and I was very touched by the amount I received. I am here again because I believe there is still a lot of work to do and because I continue to believe that people need a bigger voice and a bigger ear at City Hall .

What skills do you have that will be an asset to Stratford? My four years of experience on the board will be an asset, but more importantly my drive and passion to engage and represent the people of Stratford. My 10 years of experience working in rehabilitation with people living with brain injuries give me perspective, as does my role as a very involved father of two young children.

Ultimately, my commitment to the town of Stratford and my goal of representing people as I believe they should be represented is my most important asset.

I have a plan but I, Cody Sebben, need your support.
