Have you ever heard of the Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF)? What about the European Center for Law and Justice (ECLJ)?
These are just a few of the right-wing faith-based non-governmental organizations (NGOs) based in the United States and Europe that are trying to roll back LGBTQI freedoms and rights.
“Global anti-rights” movement
The United Kingdom Signing time revealed that there is a “global anti-rights” movement. It is made up of NGOs such as ADF and ECLJ as well as the Christian institute and the Polish Catholic think tank, Ordo Iuris.
According to the media outlet, these right-wing international Christian NGOs, along with the Polish government, have campaigned against LGBTQI rights and same-sex marriage.
They also formally intervened (with the exception of Ordo Iuris who did not present an intervention) in the Ashers Bakery litigation against Gareth Lee “gay cake”.
ADF International (the European branch of ADF) argued in its communication in the Ashers Bakery case that it had the right “not to express an opinion or to act contrary to its religious beliefs”.
The first time the ADF got involved in a case like the Ashers Bakery was in 2012 when it backed Colorado baker Jack Phillips who refused to bake a cake for a gay couple.
Pat Robertson: Founder of the Defending Freedom Alliance
The ADF was founded by conservative televangelist and media mogul Pat Robertson.
In 2013, CNN wrote an article about Robertson’s most infamous quotes.
At the time, then 83, he said Facebook should have a “vomit button” so he could “mute” it whenever he encountered footage in his same-sex couples feed. kissing.

Robertson also said that many people “involved with Adolf Hitler” were “Satanists”, and “many were homosexuals” and “the two things seem to go together”.
Her other infamous quote was: “The feminist agenda is not about equal rights for women. It is a socialist and anti-family political movement that encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism and become lesbians.
Designated “Hate Group”
the Signing time reported that the Southern Poverty Law Center considered the ADF a “hate group” because it is anti-LGBTQI. The ADF does not agree with this designation.

ADF International is an “ally” of Christian institute. The Institute supported the McArthurs, the owners of Ashers Bakery. It claims to “protect Christian religious freedom and restrict those who illegally harass and discriminate Christian believers.”
It was the Institute’s spokesperson, Simon Calvert, who welcomed the decision of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) to declare Gareth Lee’s request “inadmissible”.

The Polish government is also said to have intervened in the Ashers Bakery affair. According to article 9 of the ECHR, “forcing a person to express a conviction that he does not have amounts to a restriction of his rights”.
Archbishop of Krakow Marek Jedraszewski described “LGBT ideology” as a “rainbow scourge, worse than Bolshevism”.
