BOSTON (AP) – Massachusetts House is getting closer to a full reopening of the Statehouse, which has been largely closed to visitors, state lawmakers and their staff since the start of the pandemic, most working remotely .
Massachusetts House plans to move into the second phase of its reopening on December 13, with employees required to be available to work in person at the Statehouse as a condition of their employment, according to a note from House leaders released Monday.
To be eligible to work in the building, employees must either demonstrate that they have been vaccinated; request and receive reasonable accommodation due to an eligible disability or medical condition; or request and receive reasonable accommodation because of a sincere religious belief.
Over the winter, House leaders hope to welcome more lawmakers and staff to work outside the building on a permanent basis – with the ultimate goal of reopening the building to the general public. .
Employees who do not get vaccinated or receive a medical or religious exemption will face a range of actions – up to five days of unpaid leave if they violate the policy on December 13, until to 10 additional days of unpaid leave. leave, indefinite leave without pay or other disciplinary measures if they remain in violation of the policy.
