With the release of Hocus Pocus 2 In just over a week, a new look at the iconic Sanderson Sisters has been offered via character posters recently released by Disney Plus.

Hocus Pocus 2 was first announced in 2020, with the original cast reuniting for the Disney Plus sequel. the original Hocus Pocus was released almost 30 years ago, in July 1993. Starring Omri Katz as Max Dennison, Thora Birch as Dani Dennison and Vinessa Shaw as Allison Watts, the film centered on the witches awakened by Max de Katz who had been hanged during the Salem witch trials. Not believing in magic, Max lights the black flame candle in the Sanderson household, which is believed to revive the sisters if a virgin is the one lighting the candle on Halloween night.

In a series of tweets, Disney Plus debuted three new character posters featuring the Sanderson sisters as they will appear in Hocus Pocus 2. The posters begin with Kathy Najimy as Mary Sanderson, the middle sister dressed in red and carrying a beehive that can smell children. Next up is Bette Midler as Head Witch, Winifred Sanderson, an enchantress in green with an Elizabethan-style bun. And last, but definitely not least, there’s Sarah Jessica Parker as Sarah Sanderson, the dumbest, purplest witch who’s back to go wild.

the original Hocus Pocus went from box office flop to cult classic, as years of October reruns transformed the film into an iconic holiday season staple. As more new fans were drawn to the campy classic, with its catchy take on “I Put a Spell on You” and friendly zombies named Billy (Doug Jones, who will also return in the sequel), Disney began to see the possibility of a sequel. Although the original young actors didn’t reprise their roles, the witches all happily signed on, and it seems they all have a soft spot for their roles in the film, especially Midler, who dressed up as Winifred Sanderson for Halloween in the past. .

The sequel is full of promise. A new trailer shows the film knows what fans want from the Sanderson sisters, with plenty of gags and references reminiscent of the original film, which featured plenty of adult jokes that flew over kids’ heads but entertained their parents. A sequel has been discussed many times over the years, so it’s likely that this movie isn’t a rushed production, but the product of years of discussions and ideas.

With a late September release date, the film comes out just in time for the Halloween season. The original film is available on Disney Plus, so now is the perfect time to plan a double-feature movie night as well.

Hocus Pocus 2 releases September 30, 2022 on Disney Plus.
