Disney has spent a lot of time and energy promoting their ridiculously expensive two-day Star Wars LARP experience at a themed hotel called the Halcyon, aka the Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser. They released a video a few days ago and it didn’t go well.
Is it too expensive?
here are the starting price:
2 guests per cabin – $ 1,209 per guest / per night or $ 4,809 total.
3 people per cabin (2 adults / 1 child) $ 889 per person / per night or $ 5,299 in total.
4 people per cabin (3 adults / 1 child) $ 749 per person / per night or $ 5,999 in total.
Let me remind you that this is a “2 night” stay, but you check in at 1:00 PM on Day 1 and check out by 9:30 AM on Day 3. It’s not even two full days!
Recently a video was posted featuring imaginary Ann Morrow Johnson and The Goldbergs‘sitcom actor Sean Giambrone who showed off the real zone.
HOWEVER THEY TAKEN IT OUT after people responded in a less than stellar way!
Disney took a look at the hotel people were paying for DOWN.
Not a good look.
But it’s still there because some YouTubers reacted to it!

“The two get a very short tour of the Starcruiser, but instead of talking like normal people about what people who come to the Halcyon can expect, it’s scripted and painfully not funny. You have been warned. But this video also raises an important question, namely: Disney wants $ 6,000 for this?“
Now, allegedly, the hotel has been full for months. Like we said this hotel is an experience that if people go there it will probably be a type thing once done.
But if being booked equates to good, then I’ll point out that the Fyre Festival was well booked as well.
Part of the entertainment is Gaya, which gives me something fierce at the Fifth Element.

I feel like it would be fantastic at a Star Wars restaurant in the theme parks, but at a minimum of $ 5,000 for a 2 night stay, everything about this hotel just shows that Disney is cheap

Why do all of the Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser marketing photos make Launch Bay look more like Galaxys Edge? I’m asking this question as a person 1. invested (we have a reservation) and 2. very excited about the idea.

I know many compared the hallways and the ship more to Star Trek than to Star Wars.
Disney believes Star Wars has two aesthetics: a Moroccan flea market and Star Trek. It’s like they’re trying to hit every sci-fi look they can and like a stormtrooper they keep missing the mark.
Some of the art concepts struck me as Star Wars, but not in what I saw on the video.
I have to keep reminding myself that TWDC is a mega company that does loads of market research and feasibility testing and wouldn’t build something so disconnected from the wants, needs and wants of customers (even if they are rich).

Previously I mentioned that it has been full for months. It was the same thought I had about it.
I love the ambition of Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser and want it to be a long-term success, but I’m confused by the mainstream marketing of an expensive store experience that’s already sold out for months. Is it going to accomplish something positive or create a disappointment?

From the start, when we heard the prices on this “experience”, we were a little worried. It is expensive for a lot of people and a lot of what they charge now was supposed to be included in Galaxy’s Edge. It was scrapped and ended up in a massively overtaxed hotel.
But what worries me the most now is that Disney has taken the video down. The hotel is already scheduled to open on March 1, 2022, so it’s a bit late to change everything now. Unless they hope to bury it so people don’t cancel trips and / or forget what they saw.
Who knows.
To be fair, we only saw a few parts of the experience. They didn’t show us too much about various things like character interactions and lightsaber training etc. It is possible that other aspects are better.
But it’s not a good idea or an encouraging thing that they’ve taken the video down.
I think a lot of people are going to wait for reviews because it’s a lot of money to shell out for something that’s not good. I would suggest listening to the reviews from those outside of Disney’s shill team. If they like it, then I’m more confident it’s really worth the cost.
