Another new cult of followers took control of the social media platform Twitter on Friday and they are now calling on the conscience of internet users to give up meat consumption.
While some refrain from eating meat for religious reasons, there are many others who go vegetarian either for health reasons or for the simple fact that they don’t like the food.
Some Twitterati, mostly followers of Sant Rampal, however, seem to be consumed with the idea that eating meat is “sin”.

#BeVegetarian is among the top trends on Twitter today, with more than 300K tweets and Sant Rampal Ji Maharaj is also all the rage on the platform with nearly the same number of posts in just 3 hours since the spiritual leader started the hashtag trend.
Here’s what Twitterati shared, urging people to stop killing animals for food and go green.
Sant Rampal is a GaribDas Panthi, a band related to Kabir Panth. His guru is called Swami Ramdevanand and he was initiated into this Panth on February 17, 1988. In 1994, Swami Ramdevanand chose him to be the successor to the GaribDas Panth. He believes that Kabir is the supreme God.
In 2006, Rampal publicly opposed parts of Satyarth Prakash, a central book by Arya Samaj. In July 2006, a violent confrontation between Arya Samaj supporters and Rampal supporters at Satlok Ashram resulted in the death of an Arya Samaj supporter. Rampal was charged with murder and arrested. After spending several months in prison, he was released on bail in 2008.
In November 2014, the court ordered his arrest for contempt of court. Rampal was charged with murder, sedition, forcible confinement and arrested. In October 2018, Rampal and fourteen of his supporters were convicted of two murder cases by the Hisar court. All the convicts were sentenced to life imprisonment as well as a fine of Rs 2 Lakh each in both cases.
